CLINT DEMPSEY LINKED TO LIVERPOOL MOVE

Fulham have confirmed that Clint
Dempsey has not travelled on the
club's pre-season tour to
Switzerland amidst reports that
he is attempting to force on a move
to Liverpool.
As exclusively revealed by
Goal.com on Tuesday, Dempsey
will remain at the west London
outfit's Motspur Park training
ground this week
, though the Cottagers refused to
comment on the future of the
attacking midfielder.
The club also refused to be
drawn on reports of a bust-up
between the USA international
and his manager, Martin Jol, last
weekend. A Fulham spokesman told
Goal.com news: "Clint and Hugo
Rodallega are both staying in
London to work on their fitness
at training ground.
"Neither are scheduled to feature
in the weekend friendly against
Nice which is the reason neither
of them have travelled.
"We are not to prepared to
comment on any further
speculation as at now."
It is understood that the 29-year-
old told Jol that he did not want
to take part in the week-long
trip, and has made clear to
Fulham officials his desire to
leave the club in order to join
Liverpool side.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers
has already admitted to making
enquiries over Dempsey, who
has rejected Fulham's offer of a
new three-year deal
, as revealed by Goal.com earlier
in the month.
The American star is valued for £9
million by Fulham after he scored
23 goals in all competitions last
season, but the Cottagers would
be willing to settle for a fee
between £5m and £6m with his
contract having entered its final
year of elapse.
Stewart Downing and Charlie
Adam have already been
discussed as potential
makeweights in any deal
between the two clubs, with
Everton and Aston Villa also said
to be monitoring Dempsey's
situation in close range.
The American is keen on a move
to Anfield, but may have wait for
Liverpool to clear cash to secure
a deal by selling members of
their own squad.

CARLES PUYOL SET TO RE-NEW CONTRACT WITH BACELONA

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is
confident of imminently agreeing
a contract extension with the
team, admitting that he is intent
on finishing his career at Camp
Nou.
The veteran defender has just
been given the all-clear to return
to action after the knee
operation that ruled him out of the
Euro 2012 and his goal now is to
resolve the current uncertainty
surrounding his Blaugrana
future.
"I will try to finish my career
here," he told reporters on
Tuesday moring. "I have the desire and
the enthusiasm to keep playing
and if the club wants me to stay
here, I will continue with them.
"I have always been highly valued
by the club and the fans, so there
is no problem concerning my
renewal in that regard and I
don't think it will be a very
complicated process to undergo."
Puyol admitted that after being
forced to sit out his country's
summer success in Poland and
Ukraine, he cannot wait to get
back on the field of play, though he was
unable to specify when exactly
that will be.
"I feel good and I trained hard,"
he said. "I'm happy that I
have been cleared [to return to
training by health experts].
"I will try to do as much as
possible with the squad and then
we'll see what happens. For now,
what I have to do is get well
physically and then wait and see
how the knee responds to game."
Puyol, who has 99 Spain caps to
his name, came through the
youth team ranks at Barcelona
and has been captain since year 2004.

BASTIA COMPLETE SIGNING OF BORDEAUX STRIKER ANTHONY MODESTE

Bastia have announced that they
have completed the signing of
Bordeaux striker Anthony
Modeste on a season loan.
The 24-year-old is on the move
once more, having spent the past
six months with freshly-relegated
Premier League side Blackburn
Rovers, where he failed to score
in nine appearances for blackburn.
Modeste joins Bastia on the same
day as former Juventus
goalkeeper Landry Bonnefoi,
who has penned a one-year deal
with the Corsican side after three
seasons at former club Amiens.
Bastia secured promotion to
Ligue 1 after finishing at the top
of the second-tier standings,
accumulating 71 points from 38
matches played.

CHELSEA DANIELSTURRIDGE ADMITTED OLYMPIC GAMES AS CENTRE PIECE OF HIS SUMMER

Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge
has admitted that this summer's
Olympic games is the "centre-
piece" of his summer, after being
overlooked by England boss Roy
Hodgson for Euro 2012 team.
The 23-year-old contracted viral
meningitis that threatened his
inclusion in Stuart Pearce's squad
and the Blues striker only
completed 45 minutes play time before the
tournament began.
He was withdrawn at half-time in
the 1-1 draw with Senegal at Old
Trafford by boss Pearce, but he
stepped off the bench at
Wembley to seal a 3-1 win
against UAE with an audacious
chip from him.
"This was the centre-piece of my
summer," he told the chelsea
official website.
"It was the right stage to show
what I am capable of, but I was
more than a bit concerned about
missing it,it was fun.

LIVERPOOL B0SS SEARCHING FOR PLAYERS

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers
has revealed everyone is pulling
their weight behind the scenes
as they search for new players to
boost his side ahead of the upcoming
season.
Having taken over from Kenny
Dalglish a few weeks ago, the
Northern Irishman wants to put
his stamp on the squad and
players such as Joe Allen and Clint
Dempsey have been reported as
targets of liverpool.
Fulham's US midfielder is trying
to push through a move to
Anfield and decided not to travel
with his club to their pre-season
camp in Switzerland as
exclusively revealed by Goal.com
earlier in the week
.
Despite this development,
Rodgers has opted not to reveal
the names of any of his potential
signings for fear of being out-
priced in the market by other teams.
Rodgers told the club's official
website: "There's a lot of great
work idea going on, obviously with
the board and Ian Ayre in
particular doing a lot of work
behind the scenes for the return of liverpool to big four in the EPL.

JULIO CESAR DENIES MOVE AWAY FROM INTER

Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar has
intimated that the quotes
attributed to him in which he
said he was on his way out of
the club were fabricated by some people.
The Brazil international has been
continuously linked with a move
away from Inter since the
Nerazzurri signed Samir
Handanovic from Udinese in an
€11 million deal earlier in this
month.
Earlier on Tuesday, Julio Cesar
had been quoted as saying that
his time at Inter had come to an
end, but the 32-year-old has now
denied making such comment.
"I would like to say that I have
not made any comments about
my future," he told Sky Sport
Italy. "I would also like to deny
the some quotes that appeared on a
Facebook page that does not
belong to me.
"If I have to tell communicate anything to the
fans, I will do it in person."
The 64-cap Brazilian, who signed
for Inter in 2005, was last week
omitted from the side's squad
for the Europa League qualifiers
against Hajduk Split in the list released.
Meanwhile, Julio Cesar's agent
confirmed there is a number of
clubs interested in his client, but
underlined that a transfer is not
close at hand as at press time.
"Some clubs have contacted us,
but I told them to talk to Inter
and negotiate with them," Josias
Cardoso said.
"There is nothing certain yet for now."

ARSENAL WILL PERFORM WITH OR WITHOUT VAN PERSIE .....THIERRY HENRY

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry
hopes that Robin van Persie stays at
the club but believes the Gunners
are more than capable of coping
if the forwarder departs.
Van Persie, 28, has been heavily
linked with a move away after
revealing a desire to leave the
club earlier in the summer, with
Manchester United, Manchester
City and Serie A giants Juventus
all interested in a move for the
Dutchman player.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger
remains hopeful of holding on to
his star striker but Henry is
unsure whether the player will
remain at the club.
"We hope he stays and that's the
way it is," the Frenchman told Sky
Sports.
"I don't know exactly what is
happening but as an Arsenal fan
I want him to stay back.
"He is still an Arsenal player and
the boss has to deal with the situation. I just
want my Arsenal to do well. Robin
will do what he will do and we will
see.
"When I left Arsenal, everybody cried, but
then the year after they went on
a run of being eight points
ahead. Everyone including players comes and
goes."
Van Persie has less than a year
remaining on his existing
contract with the Gunners and
has insisted he does not intend
to extend his deal beyond.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE STILL AN ARSENAL PLAYER AND NOT YET SIGN BY CITY......ROBERTO MANCINI

Manchester City Coach Roberto
Mancini admits Arsenal striker
Robin van Persie has a difficult
decision to make about his
future.
The Dutchman made it clear
he will not sign a new contract at
the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal
have so far not agreed a deal
with any of the three clubs to
make a bid for van persie, manchster city,
Manchester United and Juventus.
Van Persie too has yet to outline
his preferred destination and
Mancini understands that it is not
an easy decision for the striker to make,
should he be given a choice between the three.
"When you talk about Manchester
City, Manchester United and Juventus,
it is difficult for a player to
choose between those three top
clubs," said Mancini from City's
pre-season tour in the Far East.
"They are all top teams and I've
no idea what will happen with
him'' he said. If we have a chance to take
him, we will try because we think
he is a top and hardworking striker.
"For now he is an Arsenal player
and I think Arsenal are also a top
team. It is not easy for Van Persie
and other players to let go of him."
Mancini insists City find it
tougher to sign players than
most clubs because of the
wealthy owner Sheikh Mansour.
"It is not easy when City try to buy
a player," he said.
"The club we are buying from
asks for 30 or 40 per cent more than normal.
For this reason it is sometimes
difficult to do get deals done. But I
think we also need to work
better." For
Robin Van Persie to be sign

YOHAN CABAYE HOPE NEWCASTLE WILL SIGN FRANCE TEAM MATE MATHIEU DEBUCHY

Yohan Cabaye is hoping
that Newcastle can capture France
team-mate Mathieu Debuchy
after saying the defender is
desperate to follow him to
Tyneside.
The Magpies have been trailing
the 27-year-old Lille right-back player
for some time, but have yet to
tempt the French club with an
offer that comes anywhere near
their valuation of the player.
However, Cabaye, who made the
same journey last summer in a
£4.8million switch that proved that
one of the bargains of the
transfer window, is confident
Debuchy wants to come to Newcastle.
He told The Journal that "Mathieu has
made a very difficult decision
to leave Lille Fc, but he has made the
decision hardly. Now I hope Newcastle
push for Mathieu and I want
the deal to push through.
"I spoke with him two days ago
and he told me he will to
come. I hope
Derek (Llambias) and [owner]
Mike Ashley will do the deal.
"He wants to play for Newcastle
and I hope that he comes to
Newcastle because he
is my friend and also a very good
player for Newcastle."
Magpies boss Alan Pardew has
waited patiently for progress on
the transfer front with Ashley
and managing director Llambias
once again refusing to pay more
than they have budgeted for their targets.
Only youngsters Romain
Amalfitano and Gael Bigirimana
have arrived today and Pardew
is keeping his fingers crossed
over the more experienced men
in his sights.
In addition, he faces an anxious
wait for the release clause in
striker Demba Ba's contract which is to expire on Tuesday with no club
yet having activated it. Keep checking on headtohead
