13 SPANISH TEAMS INCLUDING THE DUO OF ATLETICO MADRID AND BILBAO THREATENS TO GO ON STRIKE AS LFP CONVEY MEETING

Spain Liga co-ordinating body
LFP has called a
general assembly on
August 14 to discuss the threat made
by clubs to embark on strike ahead of the
new season due to a dispute over television right money. 13 Spanish
teams, including the
likes of Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid announced that
they were dissatisfied with the current deal, which sees Barcelona and
Real Madrid take
the lion's share of proceeds from television right income. However, the
LFP has now retorted by saying that it is
beyond the clubs' jurisdiction to call a general assembly, and that
they are going to convene their own
meeting to discuss general changes on the situation. "It is beyond the
jurisdiction of
the Junta de Division [a meeting of all 20 Liga clubs] to debate
and decide the issues that have been allegedly put forward," LFP
president Jose Luis Astiazaran said, according to AS,
However, the LFP has since announced the agenda for a
meeting on August 14, which includes: "The problem raised by the
repeated request of
some clubs about La Liga matches brocasting."The 2012-13 Liga season is set
to commence on August 18, with Valencia travelling to RealMadrid for
the first match.
